TB Raab at the Free Sky for Birds 2026 Conference

The Free Sky for Birds 2026 conference brought together approximately 130 experts from the energy sector, research institutions, and conservation organizations to exchange knowledge and discuss solutions for safer power infrastructure for birds.

Dr. Rainer Raab, CEO of TB Raab, participated in the conference as both a speaker and panelist. In his presentation, Reclaiming the skies – a Cross-border Success: Recovery of the Great Bustard (Otis tarda) Population from Powerline Threats in the Pannonian Region,” he highlighted the positive impact of coordinated cross-border conservation efforts and powerline mitigation measures on the recovery of the Great Bustard population.

Dr. Raab also joined the panel discussion When grids meet wings: A joint approach to bird-safe energy,” moderated by Brian McGowan (Scientias-Energy). The discussion focused on cooperation between the energy sector and researchers to reduce bird collisions and strengthen biodiversity protection.

The TB Raab team was further represented by Mabel Narh, who presented Eyes on the sky: How a long-term Video-based Monitoring Project Improves Bird Protection Along Power Lines in Austria and Germany.” Her presentation demonstrated how long-term video monitoring can help better understand bird behaviour near power lines and support the development of effective mitigation measures.

We would like to congratulate the conference organizers for successfully bringing together a wide range of stakeholders and creating an important platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
