Approval procedure for the general renewal of the 220-kV power line Hessenberg – Weißenbach under the StNSchG 2017 – Expert report on nature conservation

Project Description:
The 220-kV power line from substation Hessenberg to substation Weißenbach, spanning 71.3 km and consisting of 244 pylons, is being comprehensively renewed along its existing route. The project included the preparation of an expert report in the field of nature conservation, focusing on flora and fauna.
The current condition of habitats and protected assets was assessed and evaluated. Furthermore, the potential project-related impacts during both the construction and operational phases were identified and categorized. Measures to prevent or minimize negative effects were described, and any remaining impacts were evaluated from an expert standpoint.
The report was based on archived data from TB Raab GmbH as well as extensive field surveys. The investigation included a mapping of the biotope types present in the directly affected intervention areas, as well as an inventory of the plant and animal species found there, including information on their conservation and protection status.
Beyond the directly impacted zones, zoological surveys were also conducted in the surrounding project area, depending on the species in question. The data collection was carried out in a manner that enabled assessment according to RVS 04.03.13 (bird protection along transport routes) and RVS 04.03.15 (species protection along transport routes).
