Contracting entity:
Österreichische Gesellschaft für Großtrappenschutz (ÖGG)
Project duration:
2016-2024
Nature conservation / Renewable Energy
In this LIFE project, the protection of the Great Bustard from collision with power lines is a main goal. However, the influence of renewable energy is also the content of detailed study and evaluation. Thanks to the great cooperations with partners, TB Raab has access to data of the Great Bustards (observations and telemetry data since 2005) in Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia and Germany. Due to this conservation project, the TB Raab has great experience with data acquisition and evaluation not only in Austria, but in Central Europe.
Characteristics / innovative Solution / Content:
The partners and co-financiers in this project range from government entities, the municipalities and power line companies to national parks and NGOs (BirdLife Hungary). For the first time, Austria and Hungary implement measures for the conservation of the Great Bustard in a cross-border collaboration. The measures include mitigating the risk of collision with power lines through ground cabling and information exchange with neighboring countries.
